Information on our web proxies (specifications)

Last Updated: Oct 25, 2017 12:59PM BST

No matter what video format you upload into Aframe, as long as it's on our supported formats list, we preserve the original file and make it available for download.

It's great to be able to store and share hi-res media in its native form, but some of these files can be huge. In order to ensure a smooth streaming experience for our users, we automatically transcode each video file on ingest, creating an h.264 web proxy for playback over the internet. This is the video you're looking at when your browsing app.aframe.com,  and it's also the video that recipients of shared links will be pointed towards.

Here's the full spec of the proxy we transcode:

data rate: 2Mb/s
container format: mp4
codec: h.264
resolution: 590x394
height: dependant on source aspect ratio
frame-rate: dependant on source
default audio format will be AAC (stereo)

You may also have a HD variant enabled (speak to your account manager to confirm). The specs are-

720p
data rate: 3Mb/s
container format: mp4
codec: h.264
resolution: 1280x720
height: dependant on source aspect ratio
frame-rate: dependant on source
default audio format will be AAC (stereo)

1080p
data rate: 8Mb/s
container format: mp4
codec: h.264
resolution: 1920x1080
height: dependant on source aspect ratio
frame-rate: dependant on source
default audio format will be AAC (stereo)

Our video is served in a html5 player, with Flash player as fallback where necessary.
